Get involved – and be part of a national network of people who not only care about where they live, work and relax, but who are actively involved in improving and celebrating their environment.
Volunteers are key to the success of the Civic Trust. From work camps to clear local eyesores in 1958, to today’s Heritage Open Days, volunteers really do help us to make better places for people.
Whether your interest lies in heritage or architecture, there are plenty of opportunities for you to make a difference with the Civic Trust. No experience is needed, simply interest and enthusiasm.
BECOME A SPECIALIST ADVISER TO THE CIVIC TRUST
“Over the past ten years, the Civic Trust has responded on behalf of its membership to over 140 government consultations on proposed new legislation concerning matters of importance to civic societies - an average of one a month. A full list can be seen on the website.
“Detailed specialist knowledge on the full range of subjects of interest to civic societies is frequently needed - for example, town planning, heritage issues, housing and economic matters, etc.
“There must be many members of civic societies with these and other specialist skills of relevance and value in helping to inform the comments of the Civic Trust’s small Policy team when responding to the avalanche of consultations with which we have been faced in recent years. We are keen to involve the membership in this process and to engage their specialist professional skills. We would therefore greatly appreciate it if all member societies would ask members of their committees, and their wider membership, to contact us if they have specialist professional skills or knowledge and would be willing to be included on our database of specialist consultants on whom we could call for advice or input.
“Names and offers of how you may be able to help can be sent by here.
Civic Trust Awards
One of the oldest built environment awards in Europe, the Civic Trust Awards rely on volunteer assessors. All entries are judged by a local team, which includes a local assessor. These valuable people provide the community’s opinion about the building.
“I am passionately interested in buildings, and being a Civic Trust advisor gives me the opportunity to discover these wonderful buildings and how the architects and clients have arrived at their design. It’s fascinating to be able to discuss this with the rest of the judging team and to give the local person’s point of view”
